Archaeologists discover a device of alien origin in Egypt. Dr. Daniel Jackson manages to decipher strange symbols on it and he discovers that it is in fact a Stargate, a device which can teleport them to the planet on the other side of the known Universe.
Once they arrive there and befriend the natives, they find out that they live in constant fear of their god Ra. It turns out that Ra is a false god and a cruel alien being with advanced technology…
… and so Stargate became a great franchise…
I remember when I watched Stargate in the cinema for the first time. The story thrilled me with it’s twist on old religions of human history. Egyptian gods were in fact aliens that wanted to enslave or destroy human race. After that they turned in to a great TV show and then another, and another and a cartoon series. It was great, I watched SGU Stargate Universe (I still think theydidn’t have to cancel it) and started watching Stargate SG-1 and Atlantis all over recently. True, the shows had their oscillations in quality but they were / are fun to watch.
Also the shows expanded the SG universe extensively and added some more false deities from Egyptian, Babylonian, Norse and even Slavic mythologies since by the end of the movie Ra rides the A bomb ;-).
