Jo Nesbø is a very popular writer in my country. He is a Norwegian author. For the past 2 years his books are all over the bookstores. I pass by 2 bookstores every day when I go to work and there is always at least one of his books in window screaming at me;
Read meeeeeeee! Reeeeeeeeeeead me!!
But I never did. My “read list” is still a little big so I didn’t have the time to squeeze him into my schedule. Then, few days ago my boss at work, who loves him, brought a book The Devil’s Star to work. She asked me if I wanted to borrow it. I tried to refuse since my “read list” is filled, so she literally pushed the book into my bag and said – READ IT!
So I took the book home with me and started to read. I finished in 3 days and loved it.
The Devil’s Star (spoiler alert);
Main character is Harry Hole. You have to love Harry, he is the best. Harry is the detective who doesn’t care about anything, he drinks and he is frustrated. His partner Ellen was murdered and he suspected another detective from his team, Tom Waaler. He couldn’t prove that he did it so he lost a will for his job and started drinking.
When a young woman was murdered, he and Tom need to work together. Harry isn’t happy about it but the case begins to be interesting after he finds a connection between this murder and a case of missing women, Lisbeth.
Similar murders started to happen and it looks like there is a serial killer in Oslo. Harry decides to stop drinking and starts to work.
I really liked the book. It’s very readable and interesting. We follow Harry’s life, his feelings and his determination to find the killer and solve the case and also to get his private life in order. The only thing I didn’t like is the killer. I was hoping that the killer is Andres. But it is like it is.
So my grade for this book is 8/10 (it would be 9 if the killer was Andres 😉 )
